What to Teach

This is the minimum content for each level of Usui Shiki Ryōhō1This list draws on several sections of The Heart of Reiki by Richard Ellis, 2014.:

Level One

  • What Reiki is
  • A history of Reiki
  • The five Reiki principles
  • An explanation of the Reiki initiations
  • Two or four initiations
  • The practice of self-treatment
  • The practice of treating others
  • Grounding
  • Certification

Level Two

  • The three second-level Reiki symbols:
  • their meaning
  • how to use them
  • Mental-emotional healing techniques
  • Distant healing techniques
  • One initiation
  • Professional responsibilities as a Reiki practitioner
  • Certification

Level Three

Some teachers choose to separate the third level into two distinct courses, referred to as ‘master-practitioner’ and ‘master-teacher’.

  • The initiation

  • a precise sequence for the initiation
  • practice giving initiations
